Para-Badminton Introduced To PNG

By Fidelis Sukina – EMTV Sports, Port Moresby

Para-Badminton is a Paralympic sport and is being introduced to Papua New Guinea.

PNG has the opportunity now to adopt the sport, and hopefully qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Para-Badminton will debut in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and is an opportunity for People Living with Special Needs to learn the sport.

Ian Bridge from Badminton Oceania is in the country to show and explain the basics of the sport to participants. He explained that the sport was pretty much simple in rules and in equipment as well.

Bridge said Badminton was a growing sport and held the opportunity of an Olympic sports prospect, for any country.

Not a bad start for participants with Bridge complementing the players potential in the first day of the two-day workshop.

Bridge has been helping to spread the good word of Badminton in the Pacific and hopes the sport can yield more teams from the region.
