Oro Provincial Day

The Northern Province celebrated its provincial day today in the nation’s capital, Port Moresby.

In true Oro fashion, arrays of tapa designs were on display much to the delight of visitors and spectators.

Visitors to the event were welcomed by women chanting, Oro Oro, which is the universal term in the province for Welcome. The theme of the event was Promoting Culture for Human Development.

Entertained by traditional dances, live bands, face painting and other forms of entertainment, the crowds were out in droves as Oro’s colorful culture was on full display.

The event was organized by the University of Papua New Guinea’s Oro student’s association.

The provincial day was organized to raise funds for human development in the province, specifically to help the provinces tertiary students around the nation with tuition fees and other educational needs.

Just like all the other Provincial Associations, their day was assisted financially by the NCDC Office. The association also received K10, 000 to host their Provincial Day.
