On this final episode of Olsem Wanem for this season, we focus on one of Papua New Guinea’s biggest public health concerns, tuberculosis or TB.
PNG has the highest TB incidence in the Western Pacific region and the 10th highest in the world, with multi-drug resistant TB (MDR-TB) rapidly growing among patients.
According to World Health Organisation, there were about 2000 new cases of MDR-TB reported in 2016. Health authorities worry about projections that MDR-TB will become the dominant strain in PNG in 10 years unless action is taken.
