Oceania Continental Shooting Championship Sees PNG Bring Home Medals

A ten member PNG shooting team that went for the Oceania Continental Shooting Championship came back with medals to show for, after a stellar performance over at the Sydney Shooting Complex.

Though the weather was not favourable for team PNG throughout the event, Papua New Guinea competed against seven other contenders in the Oceania region including big names, Australia and New Zealand.

Team PNG featured in seven finals.

Pistol team, PNG missed out on silver medal by 11 points finishing up with bronze medal.

In the women’s Pistol Finals, Mel Donalds and Tania Mairi finished 7th and 8th respectively. Mairi again shot a personal best and Donalds finished 8th place in Women’s Air Pistol.

In the Junior Men’s Air Pistol Finals, Sibona Mairi placed 6th behind Australian, Thomas Ashmore.

In the Shotgun team, Darcy Leahy fell shot by 1 clay finishing 4th.

Danny Wanma, won bronze in the Men’s Double Trap Grand Prix and PNG’s A team Danny Wanma, Angus Donald and Darcy Leahy took out silver in the Men’s Double Trap Team Event.

In the Men’s Double Trap Team Event, PNG’s B team Mychal Sena, Jason Yip and Nick Constantinou took out bronze medal.

The 2015 Oceania Continental Shooting Championship marks the team’s most successful tour to date.

The shooting team will now be preparing to compete at the Australian National Championships in January and the World Championship in Bangkok in March next year.
