No Suspects Arrested after Policewoman Receives Pallet to Face

Acting Lae Police Boss, Chief Inspector Timothy Pomoso, says no arrests have been made to the Raumai 18 armed robbery.

But, he has asked the Officer In Charge of Community Policing to give a full report on how a female police officer was shot in the face.

“A lady police officer sustained a pallet wound to her face, no suspects have been arrested, but I’ve instructed the OIC in-charge of community Police to give me a report,” said Chief Inspector Pomoso.

A policewoman was injured yesterday afternoon during a daring robbery by a group of armed criminals.

The policewoman who was in a vehicle that gave chase and received a pellet wound to her face, avoiding any further serious injuries.

The gang robbed the Raumai Wholesale at the market warehouse and later escaped on a boat waiting on the Lae waterfront.

It is believed they made off with an unspecified amount of cash.

In early May, an eight member gang robbed the Pelgen’s store on Malaita street and used a PMV bus to get away.

Armed robberies continue to plague Lae City.

In May alone, nine robberies have occurred to date, and numbers will have increased.

From police sources, it is understood that the places hit are stores that have cash readily available in the tills and electronic goods that are in high demand on the streets.
