Nigeria’s Unique Flavour Brought to FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup

Every team that arrived in PNG for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, brought a little of home with them.

Team Nigeria for one, had an interesting story to tell.

Coming from a nation that is passionate about its tradition, culture and religion, Team Nigeria, though a long way from home, can rock up a room when they want to.

When this lively group of youngsters are not on the field or resting, they sing and dance.

17 year old, debutante and defender, Glory Ogbonna, said, most of these songs are for praise and worship.Where they thank God for the many blessings.

And when they win a match, it’s an even bigger reason to sing, and dance.

Ogbonna herself, a footballer who has played football for as long as she can remember has just finished high school. She says playing in the World Cup is one of the greatest achievements in her life.

For the team so far, they have not found anything in PNG different from their home country, but when it’s not a match day, they rest as much as they can, so the time difference factor would not take its toll.

In support of FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup 2016 theme, ‘To Inspire, To Excel’, this young woman, said, “When you put your mind to something, just do it, and do not let anyone tell you that you cannot.”
