NID Program to be rolled out in Pomio District

By Sharlyne Eri – EMTVNews, Port Moresy

The people of Pomio District in East New Britain Province will now be able to apply for NID registration with less struggles. Pomio MP, Elias Kapavore, signed an MOU today with the Civil and Identity Registry to take NID registration to the district level. This move supports the attempt of the registry to roll out the NID program to provinces and district.

Registrar General of the Civil and Identity Registry, Michael Kumung, said the partnership with Pomio District is the third, with Bulolo and Yangoru Sausia already running the program in their district.

Kumung said the target of the NID project is to get everyone registered by 2021.

He said it’s not an easy task and the registry has been advocating on partnerships such as the one with Pomio District, to speed up the process.

Pomio MP, Elias Kapavore, said this partnership will ease the struggles that people in the district face while trying to get NID cards; it will make the program more accessible for the people.
