NGCB Donates Sewing Machines to Support Women in EHP

By Rayon Lakingu – EMTV News, Port Moresby

The National Gaming Control board has donated one thousand sewing machines worth over K300,000 to the women of Eastern Highlands Province.

The donation was made by NGCB CEO, Imelda Agon, to the Eastern Highlands Governor Peter Numu, in Port Moresby.

Governor Numu said the machines will help to empower the women in the province with basic sewing skills training throughout the eight districts of Eastern Highlands Province.

The sewing machines will be given to registered women groups in each district, who will attend sewing skills training.

Governor Numu said women empowerment is one of the key areas that his government focuses on. The basic sewing skills training will help mothers to sew, and sell their products, hence earning them an income.

However, the Governor pointed out that having no proper market to sell their products, is always a problem. He is calling on the Minister responsible to address this issue.

The basic sewing skills training will run for three months under the sewing development program for women in Eastern Highlands Province.
