“AIR NIUGINI FLIGHTS” – Michelle Amba
All Air Niugini Flights in and out of Tokua Airport today operated as normal despite the eruption of Mt Tavurvur.
In a statement, Air Niugini said strong south easterly winds have blown the volcanic ash away from the aerodrome, allowing 4 flights into Tokua today.
The airline will take appropriate action if and when necessary. Due to the unpredictable nature of the volcano and wind direction, any decision to suspend flights on short notice must be expected.
PX 274 departed Port Moresby at the time the statement was released. For now, all Air Niugini flights are operating normally.
“PUKPUKS TRAINING ON RUGBY” – Lorraine Genia
The Pukpuks sevens camp has been put on hold, due to the current mishaps of Mt Tavurvur in East New Britain.
The majority of the train on squad, who recently flew in to Port Moresby, has requested to leave camp and return to their families, back home in Kokopo.
This comes as a major distraction as the team was in full swing with preparations leading up to their international test match in Singapore, come September.
Depending on the progress of the situation at hand, the match may be deferred to a later date.
