New Young Talents identified in National Athletics Championship

Athletics Union President, Tony Green says many young and talented athletes came through in this year’s National Athletics Championships, recently hosted in Port Moresby.

Green says with a number of potential talents identified, training of the squad will take place at the National Sports Institute in Goroka during the Christmas and New Year period.

A number of talents came through at this year’s athletics national championships, who all tried out in various track and field events.

In a telephone interview, Green says the Union is conscious of its selection and will make sure athletes selected into the squad all qualify on merit.

He says, with some of the results from the nationals yet to be released, training for these athletes will take place at the National Training Institute in Goroka.

He says PNG’s elites who also participated in the nationals, Toea Wisil and Peniel Richard are both working hard, in terms of training and preparations for next year’s Pacific Games.
