New Taxi and Bus Fare Rates Announced by ICCC

By Jack Lapauve Jnr – EM TV, Port Moresby

The Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC) today announced the new pricing for taxi and PMV services in the country.

ICCC Commissioner, Dr Billy Manoka, said the rate is placed considering issues associated with the operation of running PMV services.

Urban routes in Port Moresby will be K.90 while Lae K.80.

Taxi services will see a maximum flag rate of K1.70 and K2.30 per kilometre, as distance.

For non-urban PMV routes, ICCC has determined slightly higher fares. The fares include turn-offs along the main highway into villages. Dr Manoka said there may be new routes that ICCC have not been aware of and have not included in the gazette price determination.

“For this routes ICCC kindly ask commuters to inform the Commission so fares can be set”, Manoka said.

Dr Manoka says taxi rates will be subject to change, taking into account CPI movements and changes in petrol and diesel prices.
