Rigo Lua has been appointedthe new Chief Ombudsman Commissioner for Papua New Guinea
Mr. Lua wasthe former Public Service Commission Chairman.
Prime Minister Peter O’Neill madethe announcement today.
The Ombudsman Commission of Papua New Guineais an independent institution that provides legal services to citizens who suffer from any institution of government.
Its head’s office became vacant followingthe passing of former Chief Ombudsman Chronox Manek last year.
It has gone under scrutiny overthe years for incompetency.
The Prime Minister in a conference this morning said this is about to change withthe appointment of Rigo Lua asthe new Chief Ombudsman.
The ombudsman concept mushroomed throughoutthe world inthe 1960s and 7s.
Its primary objective was to have independent officers whose job it was to investigate complaints aboutthe exercise of powers bythe government.
