The Goroka Soccer Association is optimistic of scouting a team for the National Soccer League Competition next year.
The club is working aroundthe clock to train raw talent to develop and take football tothe next level.
The association has new executives in place who are heading this development.
Forthe past couple of years, Eastern Highlands province has brushed aside soccer as a development sport; this will now be a thing ofthe past.
Spearheaded by formePNG Womenrsquo;s soccer striker, Cathy Gunam (pictured), new board executives look to resurrectingthe code in Goroka.
The association is picking up pace to stage competitions and host national championships, includingthe recent U17 & U20 championships,the Womenrsquo;s Soccer festival and Just Play program which was introduced to schools in and around Goroka.
At this stage,the main focus ofthe association is at developing raw talent to book a spot inthe national selection side of any championships to be held.
A 40 member train-on squad for both senior men and women are in camp for the Besta Cup Championships in Novermber in Morobe province.
After undergoing fitness tests and trial matches, a final 20 men’s and women’s squad will be selected in each division.
