Moresby North East Joint District Planning and Budget Priorities Committee has budgeted two million kina for purchase of vehicles of all schools in the district.
All primary and secondary schools in the electorate will have received a vehicle each by the end of next year.
Today, the first school received a 15 seater bus; it was Saint Peter Channel Primary and elementary schools.
Saint Peter Channel primary school is one out of the nine primary and secondary schools found within the boundaries of Moresby North East Electorate.
With a student population of over one thousand, it shares its grounds with the elementary which is another addition of seven hundred students.
Today was special because in its 47 years, for the first time, the school now has a vehicle to assist students and teachers.
The bus was purchased with funding made availed through the district services improvement program funds, at a cost of a little over ninety thousand kina.
Moresby North East Member, Labi Amaiu, was at the school today to hand over the vehicle to the school.
While acknowledging the hardships that teachers face, he challenged the teachers and the administration to use the vehicle for its intended purpose.
Thanking the MP’s office for its support, chairman of the school board pointed out the schools’ immediate challenges.
He also pointed out that this will now address the problems of teachers arriving late for classes. In appreciation, the member was presented with a certificate of appreciation.
