New Board Will Look into Land Claims in Morobe

A new Morobe Provincial Physical Planning board was sworn in on Tuesday with new policies to deal withthe backlog of land issues inthe Morobe Province.

 

The Department says any titles that were given to individuals will be taken back bythe Physical Planning Department and redrawn to comply with new policies thatthey have put in place withthe new board.

A Morobe Provincial physical planning board was sworn in on Monday. The board was dismantled in recent years due to allegations of mismanagement and corruption.

 

With growing interest in Lae City, land has been sought after by individuals that claim to have titles fromthPNG physical planning department.

 

Duringthe swearing in ofthe new Provincial Planning Beard, Chief Physical Planner Gerisoma James saysthe new board will deal withthe backlog of land problems in Lae City. The hottest case would bethe old airport area allegedly rezoned for commercial use.

 

“There is a Provincial Beard who is responsible for making decisions on rezoning and use. Somewhere alongthe linethey didn’trsquo;t followthe process,” he said.
 

Mr James says most land problems in and around Lae City was due tothe Province being without a land board that caters for Urban Development Plans.

Physical planning Minister, Benny Allan ensures all Papua New Guineas thattheLands & Physical planning Department have improverd greatly.

 

The Beard Chairman, Patalis Gamato says thatthe board will be transparent to ensure that all land is given out following proper channels.
