Nepo Denies Receiving Court Order

By Merilyn Diau-Katam – EM TV News, Port Moresby

In an exclusive interview with the National Executive Council-appointed Correctional Service (CS) Commissioner, Bernard Nepo, he has denied receiving a copy of the court order reinstating Michael Waipo as CS Commissioner.

Nepo said he is still the commissioner and has raised concerns on the security of correctional officers following an attack on the college on Friday night.

It is understood Nepo has spoken to the CS Minister, Jim Simitab on the Supreme Court decision.

Nepo stated, “As I speak now, I am the Acting Commissioner for the Correctional Service. I was told that there was a court order by the former Commissioner Michael Waipo, but up to this time I have not been served that order and so that effectively means that I am the Commissioner for Papua New Guinea Correctional Service.”

Nepo added, “But there are issues that are at stake now. The security of the prisons, are at stake because of the groupings. The people who are supporting Waipo are trying to enter into the office, are doing unnecessary things such as pulling of vehicles and replacing of locks to the office of the commissioner. This is very disturbing and I hope that these things will be stabilised soon.”
