Police Boats needed in Maritime Provinces

by Theckla Gunga – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Milne Bay Governor Titus Philemon has called on the Police Ministry to provide more police boats to Maritime Provinces.

Governor Philemon raised this concern following reports of piracy in his province.

“The Milne Bay provincial government is supporting police in Milne Bay through [the provision] of transportation and communication,” Governor Philemon said.

However, he said that this is not enough.

Philemon asked Police Minister Robert Atiyafa to purchase new boats for all marine time provinces including Milne Bay Province.

When responding, Atiyafa said the concern will be brought to the attention of the Police Commissioner Gary Baki.

He said the ministry has plans in place to address this issue. “We will look into this, however we cannot buy for all provinces, but we can invest in maintaining them”, Atiyafa said.
