NCD Regional candidatescalls for tougher penalties

Share the News

NCD Regional Candidates have called for tougher penalties for the arrest of the Acting Returning Officer for Moresby – North East.

The candidates say the ARO’s release on K500 bail is not punishable as they alleged there’s evidence that the ARO had in possession large sums of money.

Electoral Commissioner Andrew Trawen in his media briefing yesterday afternoon also confirmed the arrest.

They have delivered a petition to the Electoral Commissioner Andrew Trawen to respond to many of the issues.

The Electoral Commissioner has confirmed the arrest of the Acting Returning Officer; however, Mr. Trawen is not familiar with the charges.

Meanwhile, NCD Metropolitan Commander Chief Superintendent Peter Guiness confirmed that the Acting Returning Officer was charged under the PNG Criminal Code for One count of offering Gratification Under Section 97 Subsection (b) and (d) of the Criminal Code.
