NCD Metropolitan SuperintendentoAndy Bewa has highlighted Discipline, Customer Service, and Community Partnership as areas of grave concern withinthe police force.
He said this yesterday atthe Beroko Police Station in Port Moresby during a routine police parade.
The parade was in preparation for the upcoming 38thIndependence Anniversary.
It attractedthe attention ofthe general public and was watched closely by NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Andy Bewa, Superintendent Operations Perou Ndranou and Police Station Commanders.
Though preparing for a short term goal, this parades aim to instil a more long term approach of proper police conduct.
Addressingthe parade, NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Andy Bewa said issues of grave concern tothe force were, discipline, Good Customer service, and Community Partnership.
He said ill-discipline was a major focus giventhe large number of police brutality cases.
Since taking over as Metropolitan SuperintendentoMr Bewa has put in place strategies such as parades to address police misconduct and slackness.
He has also approverdthe establishment of , Facebook page so thatthe public can report crimes or police ill-discipline tothe hierarchy.
He saidthe police must restore public confidence inthe police force by fostering closer ties withthe community.
The NCD Command will begin itsIndependence Anniversary Operations onthe 9th of September.
