National Youth Development Authority to Host Youth Policy Workshop

By Rayon Lakingu – EMTV News, Port Moresby

The National Youth Development Authority will host a National Youth Policy Consultation workshop, in the four regions of the country.

Key stakeholders, youth leaders, and mentors, are expected to give insights on the challenges faced by youths today.

They will also communicate new government directions, that will be included in the 2018- 2028 National Youth Policy.

Acting Director-General Reuben Akia, said the workshop is the time to reflect on a decade of youth development in the country. He said past efforts have been focused on youth problems and short-term solutions.

Despite the government’s commitments to youth development, through the ‘Alotau Accord’, concerns about youth problems continue to grow in the country.

Deputy Director General Policy, Dorcas Mileng, explained that the 2018-2028 National Youth Policy is about getting young people prepared for adulthood and accept change.

The National Youth Policy Consultation workshop starts with Momase Region, in Lae on the 20th – 21st of August 2018. The other regions will be informed accordingly of the dates and venues of their consultation workshop.
