Identifying Solutions to PNG’s Youth Problems

By Mickey Kavera – EM TV, Port Moresby

As Papua New Guinean youths continue to live on the margins of society, trying to make ends meet every day; efforts are being made to address this growing concern.

The National Youth Development Authority, tasked to improve the welfare of youths, has begun the process of establishing dialogue with its key implementing partners.

It has conducted regional workshops to identify solutions to youth problems.

Speaking during the NGI Regional Youth Consultation workshop, First Secretary of the Department of Religion, Youth and Community Development, Tony Walwal, stressed the importance of youths being vital national assets.

Contents of discussion include the funding of 165 positions by National Youth Development Authority within the provincial, districts and LLG’s.

NYDA’s Acting Director General, Norit Luio says, this is aimed at improving NYDA’s role at all levels to alleviate the daunting tasks experienced in improving the lives of youths.

The Southern region leg, of the consultation workshop, will be held this week in Milne Bay Province.
