National Highways Upgrade Priority

By Stanley Ove Jr – EM TV, Port Moresby

The national government, through the Department of Works, is committed to finishing all rehabilitation works along major highways in the country.

Works Secretary, David Wereh, said this in a recent inspection of the Highlands Highway.

Secretary Wereh said major works from Western Highlands, Southern Highlands, Hela province and other areas like the New Britain Highway are all targeted to be completed by 2018.

“The national government is committed and we will deliver the major rehabilitation of the Highlands Highway,” Wereh said.

The recent inspection compliments previous inspections carried out by the Prime Minister’s Department, under Deputy Secretary for Policy, Trevor Meauri.

“Many people don’t know the work of DSIPs. The government is doing a lot and the inspections are to show to Papua New Guinea the work of the government,” Meauri said.

The inspections will be compiled into a report that will be presented during the National Leader’s Summit from February 17-18.
