PNG Boxing representatives and members from various associations around the country were given a true New Ireland welcome last night ahead of the start of the 2015 National Boxing Championships in Kavieng.
A gathering was held at the Peter Torot Conference hall in Kavieng town to welcome boxers from around the country.
Fighters from Bougainville, Manus, New Mekeo, Kairuku, East New Britain and hosts New Ireland were all present.
Associations from each the of 22 provinces were expected to attend the championships, but due to situations beyond their control, a total of 15 associations will be attending.
Team NCD and other boxing clubs are yet to arrive before the elimination bouts commence today.
The tournament will be held at the Peter Torot Hall.
There will be two bout sessions. Elimination bout one starts at 1pm and finishes at 4pm, and session two will kick off at 5pm and finish at 8:30pm this evening.
