National Athletes Forum Staged in Port Moresby

By Jeremy Mogi – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

Athletes on the verge of representing PNG have been told that a lot is expected of them, not only in terms of training, but also in how they carry themselves in public.

This was stated by Team PNGs Chef de Mission, Richard Kassman at the 2015 PNGOC National Athletes Forum in Port Moresby.

Kassman has said that the image they present must also be a reflection of how much effort has been put to their development and presentation.

The athletes gathered at the forum, represented the majority of codes which will be played during the 2015 Pacific Games in July.

Coinciding with the Athletes Forum was the 2015 PNGOC National Coaching Conference, where National Coaches and Administrators were given insights into how the PNG Olympic Committee would be conducting itself during the games.

In line with that, the expectations and roles and responsibilities of coaches, trainers and other administrators were also explained, with High Performance Manager for Team PNG, Aaron Alsop, going straight to the point in explaining how the selection of athletes and players for the games should be conducted, citing nepotism and favouritism has occurred in the past for PNG teams, and how this should and would not be tolerated in the nation’s biggest sporting showpiece.

The conference is set to end on Sunday the 11th of January, and will also cover other areas such as drug use, athlete performance, nutrition and various other processes of the Games Organising Committee.
