NAQIA Detains and Destroys Undeclared Goods Brought into Country

The National Agriculture & Quarantine Inspection Authority (NAQIA) today destroyed unclaimed and undeclared goods.

NAQIA’s Assistant General Manager Operations, Warea Orapa, said all goods were from the Motukea Container Yard located just outside Port Moresby.

The goods included cartons of frozen chicken and meat slices, tinned food, rice and other edibles.

Orapa added that the goods had high biosecurity risks associated with them and could be dangerous to human health, and may also bring in pests and diseases to the country’s agricultural sector.

He said goods that enter the country with proper import permits and clearances are inspected and released. However, those that are brought in by people who don’t follow Papua New Guinean regulations are detained.
