Mt. Hagen Hospital Staff Protest Lifted

By Michelle Amba – EM TV News, Mt. Hagen

The sit-in protest by Mt. Hagen Hospital staff was lifted, effective last Friday, March 11.

This follows after a meeting was held between the Health Minister and the National Doctors Association (NDA) Highlands Branch last week.

A petition was presented by the NDA to Health Minister, Michael Malabag, in Port Moresby last week.

Meanwhile, members of the NDA, including other parties (Nurses Association, Community Health Workers and Allied Health Workers) in Mt. Hagen Hospital have given 30-days notice.

A team from the National Health Department will be in Mt. Hagen this week to conduct investigations.

All major spending by the Mt. Hagen Provincial Health Authority has been put on hold while investigations are continuing.

A report will be sent back to the Minister in two weeks for a response from his office.
