Rowdy employees atthe Mount Eriama water treatment plant outside Port Moresby fronted up atthe site yesterday afternoon withtheir families and demanded better employment conditions and accommodation.

The confrontation almost turned nasty whenthe chairman oPNG Water, Sir Moi Avei, attempted to stop our camera from filming. He was shouted at bythe employees andtheir union representatives not to interfere.

PNG Energy Workers Association General Secretary, Senty Margis, representingthe 36 Employees presented a petition to Sir Moi outliningthe employees' grievances.

Better pay and accommodation are some ofthe issues contained inthe petition thatthe employees want addressed.

Sir Moi Avei said an independent Human Resource Firm will be tasked to reviewthe terms and conditions ofthe employees beforethey can be reinstated. The review will take a month.

Mr. Margis welcomedthe review saying it is inthe best interest ofthe employees. The workers were terminated in March bytheir employer George KenPNG Limited two months ago for reasons not known.

Sincethenthey have given a ten days ultimatum to be reinstated but to no avail.
Despite that, they continue to work normal hours.
