Mount Hagen City Cleanathon

The Mt Hagen City Authority and residents volunteered this morning and cleaned up piles of rubbish which were left for almost three months.

The new Authority announced today that they will be tough on street vendors and those who litter in the City.

Residents and visitors who go to Mt Hagen are urged to be mindful of their rubbish.

The cleanathon is an initiative of Mt Hagen City Authority.

Youth, students and surrounding residents volunteered because they want to live in a clean city.

They started cleaning and removing rubbish very early this morning in the heart of the city.

Work will continue next Monday until the city is all clean.

Last week, the City Authority hired backhoes and removed blockage of rubbish at the Kerebulg dump area.

The Authority’s Coordinator, Paul Nukundi, said dump trucks were not able to go into the dumping ground to leave rubbish, because of the blockage.

Rubbish was dumped on the roadside which have posed a health hazard to the nearby community; today, work started on the dumping area at Kerebulg and rubbish was cleared; the dump can now cater for rubbish in the City.
