Youths in Kompiam district, Enga province will now have a formal gathering place to empower themselves.

Kompiam-Ambum MP and Environment and Conservation Minister John Pundari, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Youth Commission Authority for a youth centre.

The MOU was signed by MP Pundari and National Youth Commission Authority Acting Commissioner Norit Luio, and witnessed by Kompiam District staff and NYCA officers.

MP Pundari said the establishment of centre is for a way forward for youths in the district. Pundari said many youths have gone astray by getting involved in illegal activities. But with the MOU signed and funding available, MP Pundari believes the centre will be a call-back for most youths in the district.

The Youth Friendly Centre will be built, with programs for youths on capacity building through informal education and sustainability projects.

National Youth Commissioner Norit Luio said the building of youth centres is breaking barriers in other parts of the country and Kompiam has come onboard to see youths make use of such opportunities.

The MOU was signed recently in Port Moresby.
