Motu Koita Writs Issued

The Writs for the Local-level Government and Motu Koita Assembly elections as well asthe Angoram Open by-elections were issued today.

Deputy Prime Minister and minister responsible for Provincial & Local-level Governments Affairs Leo Dion signed and issuedthe Writs for the LLG and Motu Koita elections.

 

He saidthe election is important asthe LLG is three tiers of government that is wherethe bulk ofthe population lives.

 

Heads of Departments,the Chief Secretary andthe Electoral Commissioner were among those who withnessed Deputy Prime Minister Leo Dion, who is alsothe Minister forInter-government Relations, sign and issuethe Writs and launchthe LLG Gazette for 2013.

 

Nominations opened today at 4pm for heads of LLGs and LLG Ward Members.

 

Mr. Dion called on Provincial Administrators nation-wide to take ownership ofthe election process and ensure its smooth operation. Chief Secretary Manasupe Zurenuoc was confident thatthe elections would be delivered successfully withthe help of public servants.

 

Electoral Commissioner Andrew Trawen saidthe Commission was also prepared with logistics and also said outstanding money for last years’ Service Providers would be paid.

 

All provinces will receive 2 ballot papers each for the elections, except for Angoram District in East Sepik, which will receive 3 ballot papers for the election oftheir Open Members Seat.
