Prior to their departure today, AFL PNG announced the final Mosquitoes team to attend the biggest AFL tournament, the International Cup.

A 30-man team has been named to make PNG’s 10th appearance in the event.

MVIL have also come on board to support the team’s departure.

Hoping to relive the 2008 title win of the International Cup, our PNG Men’s AFL team, the Mosquitoes, departed today for the 14th International Cup in Melbourne, Australia.

The tournament is held every year since 2002 and is staged to accommodate for amateur footballers around the world. This year, the tournament has attracted 23 countries to participate.

Our Mosquitoes are up against South Africa, Tonga, Japan and India in Pool B.

With 16 Australia-Based players on the team the 36 member team is confident in their run this year.

It will be a family affair as brothers Donald, Barry and Sonny Yogomin will be playing alongside each other for another year.

Dual-athlete Wingti Pena, makes his come back to the AFL Scene and young former Binatang, Kataha Siwee, makes his first appearance for the Mozzies.

With the support AFL has received throughout the years, the code has been able to create a culture not only for the players and their development as footballers but for the AFL fraternity around the country, attracting both Government and Corporate bodies to support the code.

Motor Vehicle Insurance have come on board as the Mosquitoes major sponsors before their departure.
