According to provincial budget of Morobe Province handed down bythe Tutumang last December, K5 million was allocated tothe Gerson Solulu Tertiary Education support program for Morobe’students’

Earlier this week students’became aware that PEBewould previewthe guidelines of this scholarship as overthe years it takes in more students’thanthe allocated budget.

The President ofthe Morobe Tertiary students’union saysthe scholarship is important for human resource development inthe province and thatthe decision to reviewthe scholarship is causing a delay of payments.

The review would most likely reducethe K5 million by a million and would only cater for students’with a GPA of 2.25 and abover. this would mean that some students’would have to be left out iftheir GPA’s are below 2.25.

Bet whatthe student representative is worrlied about isthe K4 million might not be enough to support allthe Morobe tertiary students’

Whatthe students’want is for the Tutumang to increasethe K5 million by an additional increase of K3 million to cater for the two thousand plus Morobe’students’in allthe TertiaryInstitutions.

Also withthe increasing school fees inthe recent years, some parents can’t afford to pay for higher education fees for their children.

The students’are also concerned thatthe changes made tothe scholarship scheme might revoke Morobe’s goal of investing in human resource development ofthe province.
