Selection for Team Morobe for the sixth PNG Games are progressing well with the staging of the Morobe Games in Lae this weekend.
The Morobe Games is aimed at providing a fair selection of talents from all the nine districts to form team Morobe in various sporting codes.
The Morobe Games started this morning in Lae with athletes from as far the Markham, Finschaffen and Kabwum districts competing to book a spot in Team Morobe.
Morobe Games is designed to give rural based athletes a chance to expose their talents against blends of athletes in Lae and other urban districts.
This will now see a lot of rural based athletes being part of Team Morobe’s campaign in this year’s PNG Games in Lae.
The Morobe games provides a pathway for the different codes to select their train-on squads to prepare for the November games.
Volleyball saw a huge interest with both men and women teams from Markham, Finschaffen, Bulolo and Lae among others taking part.
The same with soccer, which has brought a lot of young interests together to select a team to retain Morobe's Gold Medal title.
While playing for a spot in Team Morobe, every district has its reasons in sending a team.
For team Bulolo, it has been a district known for the wrong reasons in ethnic clashes and alcohol and drug abuses.
It’s major aim in taking part is to keep young people away from such unlawful activities and involve in sports.
Bulolo MP Sam Basil was on hand to show his support for Team Bulolo and wished them all the best in their games.
