Morobe Parents to pay school fees in 2017

The Morobe Provincial Education Board has decided to impose school fees next year in all schools starting from elementary.

The PEB Chairman, Andrew Gena, said the decision was made because of the Tuition Fee Free funds not arriving on time. He added that the National Government should review the TFF Policy, especially the 60% for schools.

Morobe Provincial Education board met and decided that fees would be charged by the Board to parents for all schools in Morobe.

PEB chairman, Andrew Gena said delay in the payment of TFF Funds has caused some schools to close.

Many schools throughout the country has not received their TFF funds in a timely manner since 2015. The same thing was repeated this year.

Gena said the TFF policy should be reviewed.

The Government had allocated K602 million in 2016- with K150.5 million to be paid each quarter.

The TFF components include 40% for administration cost, and 30% each for teaching-learning resources and infrastructure.

In the 2017 Nationa Budget, K602 million is maintained for TFF. Whether the money will reach the schools on time or not still remains the question.
