Mori Urges Stakeholders to Help Government Achieve Economic Recovery Goals

By Jack Lapauve Jr – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Trade and Commerce Minister, Wera Mori, says the government alone cannot rebuild the country’s economy.

Minister Mori urged stakeholders in the agriculture sector to open-up to a dialogue focused on improving the national economic environment.

He says agriculture is the only sector in which ordinary people can directly influence.

“People can be a driving factor in rebuilding our economy,” said Minister Mori.

The Trade and Commerce Minister says the sector needs active participation by stakeholders.

Agriculture has played a significant role in supporting the country’s economy since Independence.

But in the past 10 years, it has performed way below expectations.

Experts say there are many contributing factors to this. Minister Mori says active participation by all levels of Government and sectors is the only way to improve the sector.

The Trade and Commerce Department will be working closely with the Agriculture Department to drive forward key agendas linking trade and agriculture. “ My Department will hold hands with the Agriculture Department to push this agenda forward”, said Minister Mori.
