Momis: Bougainville Peace Agreement is a Win-Win Solution

The Prime Minister and the Delegation arrived in Buka on Monday and were given a rousing traditional welcome and a guard of honour by the Bougainville Police Service.

Before the Ceremony at Belisi Park in Buka Town, Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and ABG President Chief Dr. John Mommis reconciled, marked by the “Breaking of Bows and Arrows”.

 

In his goodwill speech, Mr. O’Neill stated that the National Autonomous Bougainville Government’s (ABG) will work together to address Bougainville issues.

 

With the Autonomous arrangements now fully understood, Mr O’Neill said no time would be wasted; the National Government will ensure Bougainville receives its counterpart funding specified in the Bougainville Peace Agreement.

 

President Mommis said the Prime Minister’s visit shows that the National Government has renewed commitment to promote peace, good governance and sustainable development.

 

Chief Mommis said that the Bougainville Peace agreement is a win-win solution and good governments will partner to make Autonomy Work.

 

The Bougainville Peace Agreement awareness program was also launched, paving the way for more awareness’ to be carried out this year.

 

The National Government has renewed its commitment to support the ABG on its pathway to referendum.

 

The Prime Minister said the National Government will continue to support the ABG in preparing for the outcome of independence.
