Momase FC – New Kings of POM Super League

Momase FC arethe new kings ofthe Port Moresby Super League competition after beating Maclaren Football club 3-nil.

It was a gruelling showdown, keeping supporters ontheir toes despitethe dull wether overthe weekend atthe Besini Soccer Ground.

 

The 2013 Port Moresby Super League competition ended on a high note between Maclaren Football Club who went pastthe University outfit inthe preliminary finals, while Momase beatthe tournament favorit’s and minor premiers, Yamaros  and went ahead to bookthe final spot.

 

Maclaren were too good for the Yamaros outfit inthe major semi- final to come head to head in this match.

 

Momase in white tookthe field, anticipated to make a comeback after a long drought.  A combination of experience and first timer’s brilliance was shown onthe field. 

 

Maclaren in black preferred to puttheir strikers onthe task, sensingthe pressure coming fromthe opponents and supporters, who can’t wait to havethe first cheer.

 

Momase were determined to endthe 18 year drought by successfully netting two goals.

 

Maclaren workedtheir way into Momase’s territory, but weren’t able to go beyondthe gallant goalie. 

 

Maclaren were scoreless at halftime. It worked wonders for Momase to come out winners with a goal at 3 – nil atthe final whistle.

 

It was a success story for Port Moresby Soccer Association after snatchingthe Besta Cup title, both inthe men and women’s divisions andthe super league finale showdown.
