Minister for Sport and National Events, Justin Tkatchenko, along with members of his ministry recently commended the West New Britain Government and Host Organising Committee of the BSP PNG Games 2016, for their commitment on the ground, to ensure the successful delivery of the Games in November.
Tkatchenko believes West New Britain could deliver the best games yet, judging by the standards that it has set itself in relation to new sports infrastructure, as well as non-sports infrastructure
Tkatchenko was accompanied by PNG Sport Foundation Executive Director, Peter Tsiamalili; First Secretary, Walter Yangomina, and a team from the Sport Ministry to follow up on the progress of venues.
The new facilities include a Main Stadium with a Multi-purpose Sport Centre in the same precinct in the heart of Kimbe, an AFL oval in Hoskins, Soccer Ovals in Kapore, and Touch Football Ovals in Kulingi.
A component of the sports funding for infrastructure has also been utilised to build new classroom blocks and living quarters at Elementary, Primary and Secondary Schools, as well as various other institutions
The target of high standard sports facilities being built, including a synthetic track, and the new classroom blocks in over 10 different institutions is testament of the great vision and standard that Governor Muthuvel and WNB have set their sights on.
A total investment of K38 million is joint funding from the Provincial and National Government, for preparations and administration.
