Minister Abel Gives Response to Hagen Protest

by Stanley Ove Jr – EM TV, Port Moresby

The headline on one of the dailies titled ‘Hagen Protest’, Minister for Planning and Monitoring, Charles Abel, gave his response saying that the media should not blow out of proportion such reports like this.

Minister Abel said despite the small protest of around 50 people, the PNGNID Project launch in Mt Hagen turned out to be successful.

Abel said all Papua New Guinean’s have the democratic right to protest against this Government initiative, however the media must play the role of disseminating the right information to the general public.

Abel said despite the critics of the PNGNID, the National Government is committed to see the project be completed.

He again made clear the Government is not forcing anyone to register, however he said it is advisable for all PNG citizens to be registered under this Government system.
