Men’s National Snooker Championship

This year’s men’s National Snooker Championship will kick off on September 7.

Nominations have opened with 40 players expected to take part in the championships.

The concept of playing the minor titles first, from September 7 onwards, then followed by the major titles was introduced several years ago due to the increased number of players.

The major titles of the National Championship will start on September 14, with the winner of the minor titles granted automatic entry into the major competition.

Djong Fong is the Men’s National eight time champion who will be looking to defend his title.

He will be expecting tough competition from last year’s runner up,Marcus Ng who went on to win the men’s open last year.

The finals of the major titles will be held on September 18. PNG Billiards and Snooker Association President, John Chan, explained the fees charged for players interested to join.

Bank South Pacific has supported the men’s national snooker titles for 14 consecutive years. BSP NCD Manager, Stanerd Wai, says the bank’s sponsorship has helped in the growth of the sport in the country.

BSP presented a cheque of K20,000 to President Chan.
