Memorandum of Understanding Signed for FIFA

The proposed Bougainville Soccer Academy School will be an agenda discussed at the upcoming FIFA General Assembly, in Zurich, Switzerland.

Bougainville Football Association President, Joseph Maineke, says the agenda is among the lists brought forward by the PNG Football Association (PNGFA) through the Oceania Football Confederation.

The proposed FIFA-funded Bougainville Soccer Academy will be built at Manetai in Central Bougainville, and will be funded by FIFA.

A Memorandum of Understanding was recently signed between the Autonomous Bougainville Government and landowners that paves the way for the construction phase of the FIFA Academy School.

It’s funded by FIFA at US$600, 000 which is about PGK1.8 million.

Member for Eivo/Torau and Community Development Minister in charge of sports, Melchior Dare, says the project is a win-win solution between the ABG and FIFA.

These parties are working around the clock to complete the documentation by tomorrow – the deadline that will enable the transfer of lease to PNGFA and FIFA.

Mr. Dare says the ABG will have to attach all strings together and complete all necessary work for the project to eventuate.

Bougainville will become the second location of the FIFA academy school, apart from Kimbe, in West New Britain Province.
