In other matters raised in parliament today, the Member for Jimi, Mai Dop, asked what had become of the National Housing Project at Duran Farm in the nation’s capital.
Dop said it’s a sad state seeing not even one house built as yet at Duran Farm, and the ever-growing squatter settlements in both Port Moresby and Lae cities.
He added that when the government came into office four years ago, it made a commitment to start the program to address the chronic housing issue.
Just 10 months out from the next national election and with not a single house built under this program to date, Dop asked if the project had been abandoned.
In the absence of the Minister for Housing, Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, confirmed that the government has tried to make interventions where housing is a big issue in urban centres.
The Prime Minister said he would get the Minister for Housing to submit a detailed report to parliament.
