A second batch of twelve police officers from the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) travelled to Australia today and will be placed at police stations in Cairns and Townsville.
This is under the ongoing partnership between the RPNGC and Australian Federal Police’s placement
program, known as ‘Mekim Senis’.
The 12 police officers will work closely with the Queensland police for four weeks. They consist of constables and inspectors, five of which are women officers. They were selected from Port Moresby, Lae and Goroka police stations.
The policing placement program provides learning opportunities for local officers and a better chance to observe the skills and behaviour required in support of the RPNGC’s development goals.
Key areas are community policing, sexual assault cases, investigations, traffic operations and station management.
Meanwhile, under this same program, more than 200 Australian Federal Police officers came to PNG to mentor and supervise our police officers.
