PNG Sustainable Development Chairman Sir Mekere Morauta said in a media statement on Tuesday thaPNGSDP has used its funds extensively for environmental remediation and community development.
He saidthe government’s plan to seizethe company without compensating itois destructive tothe province andthe country. He argued thaPNGSDP’s success comes from a strong governance structure.
Sir Mekere’s response follows recent announcements by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill to put a stop tPNGSDP and re-assess its role.
Mr O’Neill sain PNG DP has not managed its funds extensively to capturethe real needs ofthe Western Province people.
Sir Mekere also arguedthe government’s decision to have Tolukuma managed by OTML.
He described this as political interference.
