Measurement Services Unit: Schools Must Adhere to our Calendar

Principles of Secondary Schools around the country have been told to adhere to the Measurement Services Unit Calendar issued to schools at the start of each school year.

Education Secretary Dr Michael Tapo made this call following complaints by parents in relation to the selection of students to higher learning institutions.

Dr. Tapo said the calendar clearly marks dates when certain data from schools should reach the measurement services unit.

He said any delay in the processing of Grade 10 and Grade 12 results and certification is due to inaccurate and late submission of student data by schools.

He also said school principals should ensure that internal assessment for students is valid and reliable as these marks are calculated towards the final examination results.

He said delay by a school to submit data on time can delay the whole process. He therefore called on schools to submit accurate data for every student it nominates for examination and certification.

Dr Tapo further urged school principals to submit students’ internal marks to MSU and to ensure it is valid as they are used to calculate the final examination results.

He said the internal marks and the examination marks have an equal weighting of 50% which is used to come up with the final results on the certificates.

He also highlighted the importance of Grade 10 Certificates. He said these certificates are prerequisite to Grade 12 and will be needed for entry into tertiary institutions and job search in future.
