Marijuana smuggler Caught!

Police in Goroka have arrested a man accused of trying to smuggle marijuana from Eastern Highlands Province to Morobe Province.

Police saythe drug trade alongthe highlands highway has increased inthe last few months.

 

The police force, again, have caught anther youth trying to smuggle marijuana from Eastern Highlands Province down to Morobe Province. Kevin Sape has been charged withthe offence duringthe long weekend.

 

Mr Kevin Sape from Atupi Village in Kainantu was transporting 15 kilogram of marijuana from his village to Finchaffen. Unfortunately for him,the police caught him yesterday during a roadblock at Agarabi just outside Kainantu. Kevin said this was his first time to take part in this marijuana trade andthe 15 kilograms of marijuana belonged to his brther, who escapedthe roadblock and left him behind. Sape saidthe amount of marijuana he was taking to Finchaffen was worth fifty thousand kina onthe street market.

 

Officer in Charge Sargent Moses Maima said people like Kevin regularly transported marijuana down to Lae during weekends. He said his team set up roadblocks every Saturdays and Sundays and checked vehicles for marijuana and ther illegal drugs.

 

The marijuana pack was placed in a bag under anther passenger’s seat. However, but it was identiflied bythe ther passengers as a property belonging to Kevin Sape.

 

Sargent Maima said possessing of marijuana and ther illegal drugs was a serious criminal offence andthe smuggler Kevin Sape is likely to spend 2 years or more in prison.
