Maprik Court petition decision pending

The National Court in Wewak will decide on Tuesday whtherthe election petition brought up by Gabriel Kapris against Maprik MP, John Simon will go to trial or not.

Ofthe three grounds ofthe petition, lawyer for Kapris, Greg Manda withdrew all allegations on illegal practices, due to incompetency.

On Friday, lawyers for the Electoral Commission and MP, John Simon  submitted tothe courts thatthe remaining grounds of bribery and undue influence also be struck off because of non-compliance of section 208 (a) ofthe Organic Law on national election which require “specific facts” to be stated inthe petition.

The matter is before Wewak presiding Judge, Justice Allan David Kingsley.
