While the Australian Government boasts a range of services being provided to Manus Province in exchange for hosting an asylum centre in the province.
Manusians have a different story. Manus MP, Ronny Knight, in Parliament today echoed the grievances of his people.
He said his people are missing out on the spin off benefits because expatriate workers have taken over.
Knight said there are constant issues arising in his province from the differences locals have with Australian expat workers.
He said most of the contracts are going back to Australian companies.
Mr. Knight warned that his people were prepared to jeopardize the project if their cries were not heard.
In response Foreign affairs minister Rimbink Pato said it was a very serious issue. He asked the MP to put his concerns into black and white, to be addressed as a matter of priority.
In a general response Mr. Pato said it was important for local participation.
