Manus Gets its Own Vessel, MV Trade Star

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and Manus MP Ronny Knight togther launchedthe new MV Trade Star Vessel, n Manus earlier this week.

 

The vessel will be making door-to-door services for the people of Manus Province.

The trade star is a cargo and passenger ship. It’s vested with passenger, crew and VIP rooms. It also has a mess and fully equipped ablution facilities.

 

Its route will be from Port Moresby to Laethen to Lorengau, and this will take 6 days.

A crew of 7 will be its caretaker.

 

It will be utilized to deliver services earmarked underthe Manus district services improverment program.

 

Mr. Knight saidthe ship will assist public servants deliverthe long overdue services to allthe islands of Manus Province.

 

He said despite criticisms, his government will deliverthese services to improverthe lives of his people.

 

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill was giventhe honour to launchthe Trade star.

 

Mr. O’Neill said that lLeadersmust takethe onus to make sure services are delivered and commendedthe provincial government for takingthe lead.

 

He said vessels as such are critically important for island provinces and commendedthe provincial government for it.

 

He committed his government’s support to developthe Manus province.

 

The vessel was purchased bythe provincial government underthe DSIP funds at a cost of two point five million kina (K2.5m). It will be taken managed and maintained bythem as well.
