Man buys turtles at local market, only to set them free

By Daphne Rasehei – Emtv Online

Arron Culling, a New Zealand worker in Papua New Guinea spotted what appeared to be loggerhead turtles from a local food market.

“Found these at the local market,” Culling wrote on Facebook on Friday. “Got them for 50 bucks drove 5km up the road and let them go.”

The two sea turtles meant to end up as a fine meal were luckily spared by Arron and his co-worker Mark.

He shared his story in a Facebook post which has now been shared over sixty thousand times.

These aren’t the first turtles that this animal lover and his co-worker have saved. They’ve already rescued about 10.

There are only seven species of sea turtle in the world today, and nearly all of those species are endangered.

What Culling is doing is so important if we want to keep these amazing creatures around.

Conservation groups have also shared Culling’s post, praising his actions and encouraging others to protect turtles.
